Annotation
American underground poet, novelist & essayist. 20th Century. Known for his wry, anti-heroic approach to life & literature.
Most of his poetry & fiction revolve around down-and-out characters living on the margins in Los Angeles, California, underdogs largely overlooked by modern society, mostly himself, appearing under the character name, Henry Chinaski.
Bukowski's essays are more on his interactions with the 'lit scene' such as it was during his lifetime. These essays are often sardonic and insightful.
Can be summed up by his Epitaph: "Don't Try".
