Carlo Ginzburg (Italian: [ˈkarlo ˈɡintsburɡ, - ˈɡin(d)zburɡ]; 15 April 1939 – 17 June 2026) was an Italian historian and one of the founders of the field of microhistory. Coming from a Jewish family from Turin, he received a PhD from the University of Pisa in 1961. He subsequently pursued an academic career. His works include The Night Battles, The Cheese and the Worms, and Ecstasies: Deciphering the Witches' Sabbath. He died in 2026 in Bologna.
