Stephen Edwin King (born in Portland, Maine, USA, September 21, 1947, age 70) is a contemporary American writer. His horror novel, science fiction and fantasy novels have sold over 350 million copies worldwide, and some have been adapted into films, television, and comic books. King has published fifty novels, seven of them published with pen names Richard Bachman, as well as five nonfiction books. He has also written nearly two hundred short stories, mostly published in nine short fictional collections. Most of King's novels are in place in his hometown of Maine. King has received numerous awards, including the Bram Stoker Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the British Fantasy Society Award. His novel The Way Station won the Nebula Award nomination, [10] and the short story "The Man in the Black Suit" received the O. Henry Award. In 2003, the National Book Foundation awarded the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. [11] King has also received numerous awards for his contributions to the world of literature throughout his life, such as the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement (2004), the Canadian Booksellers Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2007), and the Grand Master Award from Mystery Writers of America (2007)
