In 1936 the family moved to Canada and Tony spent the rest of his childhood in Wolfville. In 1952 he graduated from Acadia University with a BSc in Chemistry. He later completed an MA and PhD at Queen's University. During his time at Queen's University, he married Janet M. Clarke (Acadia class of 1953). Together they had three children: Thomas, Rachel, and Sally."
