Luís Vaz de Camões (Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lu%C3%ADs_de_Cam%C3%B5es and https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lu%C3%ADs_de_Cam%C3%B5es) was a Portuguese poet known mainly for "The Lusiads" (Portuguese: "Os Lusíadas"). He was born in Lisbon (Portugal) circa 1524 and died in Lisbon on the 10th of June 1579 or 1580. (At the time of Camões's death, the calendar in force was the Julian. Thus, June 10 will correspond in the current Gregorian calendar to June 20.) The 10th of June, the alleged day of the passing of Camões, is celebrated in Portugal since it is the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities (Portuguese: Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas).
