Annotation

This is a companion book to the authors' now famous Atlas of Embryology. It is a unique aid to the laboratory interpretation of histological preparations for GCE A-level and first degree students. It contains photo-micrographs of preparations, with facing labelled drawings which in almost all instances have been drawn directly from the original specimens. To set the illustrations in their theoretical background the authors have included enough text to describe in outline the basic principles of the subject.

The book begins with a general introduction to cell and tissue structure and continues with illustrations of epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissue. The next part is devoted to organs, grouped under the following headings: digestive, urogenital, respiratory, neurosensory, endocrine and circulatory systems; skin, spinal cord and brain. It concludes with sections on organ relationships and mitosis.

The authors used preparations of the highest standard, collected with the co-operation of the main departments of histology in this country. The preparations have been matched by the superb quality of the photographs and drawings.
